Biography

Karen Vancluysen has been POLIS Secretary General since 2014. Before, she worked as POLIS Research Director for 8 years, network manager at ACCESS and project manager at Langzaam Verkeer. Since 1998, Karen has been involved in European urban transport networking and policy activities, and EU R&I projects covering a wide range of urban mobility topics. POLIS is the leading European network of cities and regions on urban transport innovation.

Passengers are starting to return to public transport after the pandemics; however, new patterns/frequencies of commuting and tendencies of increased use of active mobility modes do not appear to change the overall picture. Higher car ownership and use is no smaller challenge either. A panel of experts will share their suggestions on how to regain, or even reinforce, passenger uptake in public transport.
