Biography
Ms. Fatimetou Abdel Malick is the President of the Region of Nouakchott, President of the Mauritanian Association of Regions (AMR), and Interim President of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF). The first woman elected mayor in Mauritania in 2001, and later the first woman elected President of a Region in 2018, she is a leading figure in African local governance. Former President of UCLG Africa, she chairs UCLG's Standing Committee on Gender Equality, a position to which she was re-elected in 2026.
