Simina Lazar Network Lead ASToN network (African Smart Towns Network) Paris, France


Simina is passionate about cities, communities and innovation.
She is working with local governments and organisations in Europe and in Africa to design sustainable urban policies and tackle complex local problems. She currently leads ASToN network, a network of 11 African cities engaged to use digital tech to transform their territory. Simina also teaches international cooperation and integrated urban policies at Ecole d'Urbanisme de Paris.

Urban safety includes both the objective problem of safety and the subjective individual or collective sense of safety. Digital technologies may contribute to improving both objective safety and the individual feeling, for example in the case of cybersecurity, surveillance or emergency response. But are the challenges of urban security related to the use of new technologies and civil rights or are we facing new situations of insecurity for specific groups?
