Selina is a Latvian politician and activist leading the climate neutrality policy in City of Riga. Holds a degree in Political Science, MA in Environmental Management and is currently pursuing a PhD in Environmental Engineering.
Previously worked as energy and climate policy expert for ~10years for NGOs and State inst.

Science is showing that global temperature increases should be limited to 1.5ºC to minimize the effects of global warming. As cities are large consumers of energy and responsible for most emissions, shifting from traditional fossil fuels to renewable and sustainable energy sources is mandatory to dramatically minimize them. This session will explore the current challenges and lessons learned on net zero and energy transition. What are the available sources of energy in cities? Can cities’ commitments reach 100% renewables?
