Biography

Patrice Vergriete is the President of FVD, Mayor of Dunkirk and President the urban community. He is a graduate from Paris Polytechnique School, Engineer of bridges and roads and Phd in urban planning. He started at the OECD and in ministerial offices before running an urban planning agency.

After the global effects of the pandemic and current geopolitical tensions, cities are making an effort to recover their economies. Traditional economic models have become obsolete as new urban challenges arise, and more people-centred, innovative and sustainable models are responding the new ways of living and working. The challenge is how to ensure a stronger role from local governments in gaining financial and fiscal autonomy, and how can cities adopt the suited economic model for their growth and development in sustainability, wellbeing and resilience.
