Centering People in Smart Cities: a Roadmap

UN-Habitat is introducing the “people-centered smart cities” approach, which shows how smart cities can be an inclusive force for good, if implemented with a firm commitment to improving people’s lives and building city systems that truly serve their communities. It requires residents and urban stakeholders to engage through community participation, bridging the digital divide, developing essential digital infrastructure and governance, and building capacity through multi-stakeholder partnerships. It also requires governments to take a strategic approach to digital transformation, understanding its potential, and ensuring that it aligns with existing priorities as outlined in the 2030 Agenda.
