Held at the Haliç Congress Center, the event was jointly organized by Fira de Barcelona and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (through Kültür AŞ). Companies and institutions came from 22 countries to showcase their projects, technologies and urban solutions to visitors and experts alike. The congress featured over 100 expert speakers including Anthony Townsend, senior research Scientist and NYU's Rudin Center and Principal at Bits and Atoms, and Phillip Rode, Director of the LSE Cities at the London School of Economics and there was a fascinating discussion panel which included the Mayors of Budapest, Helsinki, Casablanca and Istanbul.
The special focus on mobility also helped to put Istanbul projects in the spotlight, showing several that are being undertaken in order to tackle the issues arising in the metropolis. This along with the institutional support it has received and the high number of visitors to the Expo, firmly places Turkey as an important smart city player.
