Towards Zero Waste

Reducing waste and saving resources at Smart City Expo World Congress

WORKING TOGETHER TOWARDS ZERO WASTE

Towards Zero Waste is an initiative launched at Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) in 2015 in order to reduce waste and increase the efficient use of our resources. SCEWC is fully committed to the objectives of creating efficient, sustainable and economically viable cities.

Last year proved to be a phenomenal success and with the initiative returning in 2017, our desire is to do even better this year.

SCEWC's Towards Zero Waste based the initiative on the three main ways to generate less waste according to the European Commission's Circular Economy strategy: the use of less materials, reusing and recycling products and no alimentary waste. What action are we taking?

  • The selection of materials that will be used during the event (modular stands, decoration, lanyards…) have been designed to be recycled and/or reused.
  • Containers will be available to separate waste collection.
  • Restaurants will provide biodegradable and compostable utensils.
  • Food waste will be donated to the NGO Nutrition without Borders.
  • QR code points will be set up to download the App and the magazines from the press corner.
  • Part of the event's electric energy consumption will be generated by the solar panels installed on the rooftop of the venue.

HOW CAN YOU CONTRIBUTE TO TOWARDS ZERO WASTE?

  • PAPERLESS
Make online payments, invoices and contracts. Use digital material to provide information about your products or solutions. Use the SCEWC App. Download the magazines from the press corner.

  • REUSE
Return your accreditation. Use 100% reusable materials for your stand (access the Exhibitor Area to indicate which of those materials are reusable).

  • RECYCLE
Separate waste collection: paper, plastic, organic and non-reusable materials.

  • SUSTAINABILITY
Use biodegradable and compostable utensils in the restaurants. Give us any leftovers you have at the end of the event. Ensure the correct management of special waste products like paint and the correct disposal of dangerous materials.
